Fisheries protection:

The acute shortcomings of maritime surveillance capacity in the southern African region impacts unregulated, unreported or illegal (UUI) fishing.
Many years of regional instability, low or decreasing economic growth rates and a lack of political awareness, have lead to massive neglect of the maritime surveillance capacity of the region.

The result is a significant loss of potential revenue from UUI fishing, as well as the depletion of the existing stock of fish in the EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) of 200 miles. Fishing fleets from Spain, Thailand, Taiwan and many others are exploiting this situation
